It's almost the end of week 3 here at Sprayberry and things are in full swing!

In chorus, we currently have our eyes set on our next big project: Large Group Performance Evaluation.  This will be the time  where all of our choirs at Sprayberry will perform in front of a panel of judges and be evaluated on our performance.

LGPE is at Piedmont Church this year. Here at the dates/times for each choir.

Men's Choir: Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. (warm up time is 6:40 p.m.)
Treble Singers: Friday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. (warm up time is 2:40 p.m.; students will leave campus that day)
Advanced Women: Friday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m. (warm up time is 5:40).

All students will travel to and from Piedmont Church via bus.  As soon as I get our bus situation figured out, I will communicate specific departure times for everyone.

Please be sure you have turned in your permission form to allow you to travel.  If you have not filled this form out, please let me know ASAP so we can get that taken care of. Remember: it has to be notarized! :)

If you have any questions about LGPE, let me know!

Location: Sparyberry Theater

Arrive early to take part in the Chorus Silent Auction, which will be held in the Sprayberry Theater lobby prior to the concert!

Fall Concert Review/Looking to the Holidays

10/26/2018

Last Monday's fall concert was a HUGE success.  I was super proud of all three choirs on their beautiful and musical performances that they gave.  I got wonderful compliments from my fellow colleagues that were in attendance and from Sprayberry's former director, Mr. Autry! A really nice performance, all!

But the work is not over yet! Now that our fall concert is out of the way, it's time to start focusing on our holiday concerts.  Sprayberry Chorus is involved in two holiday concerts: Advanced Women and Men's Chorus will be combing for the Masterworks concert on November 30th, where we will be joined by the Sprayberry Band and Sprayberry Orchestra.  Our chorus holiday concert will be on the evening of December 10th. Please refer back to the syllabus for any questions relating to concert dates.

Students have already received some of their holiday music; the rest will be coming shortly.  Men's Choir and Advanced Women have already received: The Kyrie and Gloria from Schubert's Mass in G, Master's in the Hall, Carol of the Bells, and Chanuke oi Chanuke.  Treble Singers have received Gesu Bambino and I Wonder as I Wander.  If your student has not recieved this specific pieces, please let me know so I can fix that! We've already started working on these pieces, and they're going great! I encourage all of our students to continue to practice their music outside of class, to speed up the learning process!

I would also like to reiterate one point from the syllabus regarding concert attendance.  Our concerts are our final exams for chorus, and it is important that every student arrives to the concert to "take their test".  If a student does not show up to the concert, per our policy, the student will have to schedule a time to make up the concert by singing their music for me, as a solo.  Those students have 5 days upon their return to school to make up the concert; if they fail to do so, then it will be documented as a "0" in our gradebook.  If you have any questions about concert attendance, please feel free to reach out to me as soon as you can.

I'm really looking forward to our holiday concerts, and I hope you are, too!

Fall Concert coming soon!

10/15/2018

Our fall concert is quickly approaching! Before we know it, October 22nd will be here and we'll be ready to take the stage.  We unfortunately had to postpone this concert due to some unforeseen conflicts (it's original date was suppose to be October 15), but we're all happy we get a little extra time to do some work on our music.

So far this year, in all three of our choirs at Sprayberry, we've been working on building our musicianship skills.  Every day at the beginning of our classes, we do sight reading exercises to improve our sight reading abilities and our musical ears.  It's been a slow process, but I'm happy to report that progress is being made across all choirs! We've been able to bump each choir up to the next level of sight reading, and that's exciting!

Another thing we have been working on is creating a beautiful choral tone.  We've spent a great amount of time talking about vocal technique, and what it means to sing in a choir with other people.  We've been developing our understanding of the voice and training our ears to listen to the people around us in order to create a blended sound.

We've only got one week of rehearsals left before our concert! We're excited, and I hope you are, too!
